I've been rather busy working on things that could not be posted about. However, I finally have made it to the point in the the detailing progress of the campaign for L4d2. Most of the work before that was layout testing and finding errors that weren't important or I was unable to show them off.

This is the backlot, the area of the map that is suppose to be the crescendo event for M1. Mind you, other than the two obvious names that appear on the list as regular words in the dictionary, according to how they appear in Byte's Mud Language, they mean something entirely different. I still have to go through the process of renaming many of the major characters that may return from the older comic, dropped entirely, and others get full overhauls.

Every fan submitted soldier, minus one I'm missing, appears on this list and should appear in the comic (unless I've overlooks something). I'll have art following as I go through the process of updating looks where I can. There are a few soliders, on this list at least, that have been altered slightly (name related) already. As with having a naming language I can start naming countries, cities, towns, locations, and major groups that need Byte's Mud Language names. This also means I can put up the new map.

If you ask why, don't; I'll answer it for you: This language means little other than presenting a non-human culture with how their pseudo-language would appear like, in comic. The story itself, their dialogue, and anything else important should be in English. I'm not going fanatically into the process of creating sentences, jargon, and the whole spiel .

L4D2 New Opening WIP

So its been a while since I posted on the blog. Granted, I've been writing mostly trying to get One Byte into a clear defined - beginning to end - full story. Where everything and every character written in gets used for their important parts of story telling. It will take time, just now plotting out the third arc now.

So, otherwise, i want to say that I finally built a fully compiling map 1 but after getting some feedback about how it looks like as a playing map, the opening, in particular was rather bland and unimaginative. Instead, I changed it slightly for the port side of the road. At least now it looks better and more functional for the city.

L4D2 Crescendo 1 WIP

Not much to report on this time round.

After relentless back and forth over how this area should look and play, I've finally made the next area of the map leading not only from the street, but from there to the crescendo area.

You have yourself the condemned area.

"Any chances to get high-res pictures from directly editor or in-game?"

Not at the moment, not for a while. You'll find that for now, most of the pictures will now lack detailed places as layout, programming, and optimization have become foremost important issues with the map. I plan to finish the layout and have a working navigation going before I sit down and detail this mother.

Detailing is a very important step, but I rather take functionality over the first. Given that I work full time and such now, its no biggie that it takes time between updates. I can't help it. I have to work on what I can when I am able to.

Take for example this Jenny Concept Art finished around late April, Early May. I've finally come around to scanning all the layouts of the pages in to at least prove that I haven't given up on any project that I'm working on.

Here it is, all the pages planned for this project outlined. I've gone and done something different than how I normally write comics. In this case, there was no script. Just a rough outline to follow to figure how the story would unfold once I saw all of it on paper. The rough never had a clear ending before the last few panels.

Don't except to completely understand the system here, these are just rough notes of what page layout might come to be and will probably change as pages are finalized.

Damned Nation Map - Office 2 & Warehouse

Over the weekend, I was able to work on the map again and textured most of the new area today to have something to show off at least.

Most of the work I did in the map was scaling and alignment between the train bridge (m3), the Office #2 (m2). Its an important corner for scale on both those maps and after doing so, it gave me an idea on how to fix a few problems. The first part was getting rid of the original prop train bridge from Crash Course, and decided to build my own out of brushes after all. CC's is just too tall!

I've been working the idea of two alternative paths in the game which the players are forced into either the warehouse or the office building. Either way, they will make their way towards the stairs that are featured in the map. In the pic above, this is the second floor looking down to the first. A brush will force the players down into the hole.

This is the inside of the warehouse. For layout sake, all the props are the same type. I will get around to changing them up. Here, the optional crescendo will be avoiding to shoot gas cans that are scattered around the room. Most of the programming is ready on this, I just need to test more of it in-game when I build specifically for map 2.

One of the problems was figuring out how players at the start of map 3 were actually going to get from the roof of Office #2 to the train bridge. I've decided that players will be forced onto the roof of the very same skybridge they might have crossed in Map 2. After which, its just a hop, skip, and jump onto the train bridge.

Scale Scene

At the time of this post, these pages are not present on the Cameo Comic website. (http://cameocomic.comicgenesis.com). There's no reason to not post them, there for my selected follower's enjoyment, and so that it looks like I've updated the blog more often. This comes before the catnap pages that are done and will be posted something soon, here on the blog.

Honestly, and believe me, I feel like I'm in the same boat, reader! I have little to no idea whats going on. Cameo comic is a story about a web-comic character who can travel between different comics. She knows she's a comic character, she has some limited super hero powers.

The scene here, developed by Hogan, is Scale's idea to talk to her "father", an avid gamer of WoW. Yes, "Father" in quotation marks, because he wrote the character into existence with Hogan (another "father") and Caitlin (her "Mother"). Unfortunately, I have no idea what playing WoW is like to get a full concept of whats going on. I know basic things, but I am uneducated in the ways of the game.

So she enters an internet cafe, during the zombie apocalypse and gets on Wow. There's little to be thrilled about this scene except a couple of facts:

Her "father" is a real person, in our world, and she's talking to him through a computer from a comic.

She's not in her own comic's world, as far as I can understand, so she's even communicating across that.

It is the zombie apocalypse, its weird that the store would be open and has not only someone that is not a zombie can help her, but that the place even has power.

This is the end of the commission I did for Hogan. Hogan wrote out the scenario, I did the dialogue and the drawing. Matt did the editing of the dialogue.

Damned Nation Map - Street Wip 2 (ingame)

Here's a bit of transition from the last in-game shot of hole 1 with a bit more lighting and some more major detailing.

Mind you, I've been working also on fogs and lighting (only for subways) but when I finished, I began blocking out the street's buildings. Here it goes:

In no Particular Order:

L4d2 Campaign called "Damned Nation".

Steam-punk/Fantasy Story

In One Byte

Jenny Everywhere - "A Few Loose Nuts"

Opus Fasola and Legato Fasola, a fasola story

CameoComic/EOU related stories: "catnap's finale" and possibly a "Scale Story".

TF2 maps "Lancelot hold" and "Aftershock"

TF2: "Lancelot hold" and "Aftershock"

Both of these maps are gone. Backed up on CD and burned off my computer. Any files associated with them have been removed from my computer and TF2 itself has been swiftly removed from my steam account as an active game. I'm done. This isn't happening. TF2 has always been a very hard game to make right. It involves a lot of balance to make the game seem right. While, yes, it was fun and a good way to learn maps, it just wasn't for me. I couldn't break out of the mold of making an enjoyable map that played well. I certainly feel I have an eye for detailing and could make any map look good, I just don't have the knack to making working layouts. It mostly has to do with how many classes there are in the game, and trying to not under power any of these classes.

L4D2: "Damned Nation"

After suffering a crash on the computer a lot of files were lost, including the L4D2 campaign I was working on. Unlike TF2, there aren't as many variables to counter with. I can do this project myself, it just requires a lot of solo time detailing what roughly would be 4-5 maps. You've already been subjected to some progress pictures.

I will be posting more. I plan to have a release of just the first two maps before I must return to the drawing board and figure whats going to be on the other side of the river. There isn't much else to say about this project, just that its more of a main focus right now.

A Fasola Story

I have no control over the story of Opus at the moment. Back at end of last year I found myself desiring to write a story about the Fasola family. My girlfriend loved the character a lot, and wanted to write out a story for him as well. Compromising, I wrote out a rough outline for a story where he's outside of any tournament and not obsessed about his cousin anymore. Opus's story is about redemption after failure to bring something to the family name. I only know the rough outline and will work with my girlfriend to help edit the story she's writing out for him. Yes, she works on it, but she's got a different pace than I do.

On the other hand, there is Legato. You barely known him. I wrote out all his powers and a story but never got around to feeling like drawing it. I've taken this character apart and put him back together. and will be incorporating it into the steam-punk's universe. Given a different name and similar powers. He fits that era, that story now. He's no longer a Fasola, but he's not the main subject of the steam-punk fantasy story as of yet. I will mention soon enough.

"A Few Loose Nuts"

Jenny Everywhere has just been sitting there, yes, she's that lazy. Wait no, I've been that lazy.

She has no page by page script as of yet, just a storyline premise that reaches three pages in full. I did post in January all the pictures of the characters going to be used in that story but I've not really sat down and drawn out an outline of it. I should get to typing out the story to my comp and doing the drawn drafts. The excuse probably lies that I haven't been drawing much as of late. Most of my attention away from the computer has solely been on my other writing, namely the steam-punk story that's been everywhere. I will be working on it. There's no reason to stop work on it.

Catnap and Scale

I finished catnap, its done. Completed, but not on the internet as of yet. Its part of a callback to Cameo Comic that should be coming out May 1st. Otherwise, I would post it up and just spoil it for everyone. Where's the fun in that? No, just wait patiently like I've been since February like I have to have it posted on the net.

Also, I may be doing a short Cameo Comic for Scale that may appear before the Catnap thing or after it. Details are sketchy, of course, because I was just asked yesterday of this post. I will try to keep it brief to not get in the way of these projects.

Steam-punk Fantasy Story

Okay, so I haven't been posting much on here because I haven't had anything to post. Its not that simple! There was a few things that I needed to address to move on with getting this set up.

It started with trying to figure out what I wanted to do with a two boxes, the size of these boxes is probably the size that industrial computer paper comes in (take a while stab at guessing the size for my sake). I typed out almost everything from these to get all the random ideas for stories into one place. I ended up making about 5-6 different documents with 20+ pages each for just ideas, names, story plots, and rules. The most is probably the random ideas that formed, which comes off as being around 31 pages. That's a lot, but it was built up, over years since I started writing for fun. There were terrible plots that will never see the light of day but out of them there were things that were going to help enrich the world that was this Steam-Punk story's universe.

(For argument's sake, let it be known that I know I am truely terrible at naming things. That is why this story doesn't have a title because I haven't really come up with one as of yet, just sitting there, with a temporary name on my bulletin board giving me ugly looks to work on it.)

After getting all these ideas down onto the computer, I was left with trying to rebuilt this world from the ground up. There is a rough time line without dates and a back story to the world's dead, but most influential villain that people still fear his wrath to this day, despite the fact that he's long dead and will never return.

The story doesn't just involve human but a series of different creatures as well that popped out of different sources, like Greek myths, fables, and fairy tales. I've been in the process lately trying to give each of these non-human species a setup of how their society was set up before the world stopped spinning up until the present. In fact, despite their being a handful of outstanding societies of these creatures, there are minor cultures as well, ones that never flourished like the top 8 did. Ones that either never got around to understanding , lets say "the wheel", or ones that fester over magic. Humans, however, have the most territory and regard themselves as keepers of magic... or perhaps they are just dumb enough to take the job.

Steam-punk worms its way in the story because despite their being magic, there is a majority of the world that just doesn't have magic, where science flourished in its absence. Where gods no longer answered prayers, and the like. Magic was one of the tougher things that was being developed for the story, but the mechanics have finally been figured out and how it seemingly intertwines with the steam-punk.

Of the last thing I worked on last week, was languages. Not per-se how these languages have full alphabets but why certain species speak things while others do not. I'm sure "The Trade Language" (or if this was one byte "the mud language") has different accents abound but I have not yet got around to figuring what they sound like on paper. They may not even be important for the story but its something that I need to know.

The plot has been all over the place. In fact, there are outlines for later stories set in the same universe. One even involving a new version of Legato Fasola, or so I hope. But I'm not sure where to begin with the first story, the introduction story that shows people what this not-earth is like. Where the over archiving plot that connects these other stories lays, per-SE. I will not be posting the full stories out online, maybe a chapter, but ultimately, my goal for this is to be published.

Published as there is a physical book that's been looked over by a professional editor, and hopefully been perused by people that are interested in a sequel.

"In One Byte"

Formerly known as "Project ADAM", and as mentioned a few times on the blog, that I've been working on to redo. I've also mentioned on twitter where I might have been with chapters. As it stands right now, I have redone the back story to the world. The attempt of redoing this story was to focus on the main character again, and only him. My problem a lot of times is that I often add too many characters to the story. Instead, this rewrite came with a new name of the project and only has been adding essential characters that move the story along and are often revisited.

Before even putting out a single page, I've been writing out the plot chapter by chapter, figuring where characters would go and what they need to do. Everyone has an objective, everyone feels more fleshed out, deeper. Many of the characters from the early story have been changed over, either with combining them with others or finding necessary changes that would push the plot forward that avoid me having to reexplaining things out in full. You should have noticed some character drawings on the blog already or even on deviant art.

As it stands right now, One Byte is somewhere between chapter 9-10. I've had to figure where the stories been going over and over, trying to find the best escape route and figure between various scenarios which would be the best possible solution of the problem of the second Arc. I know who each villain is, just shortening the story may be the hardest part. When I finish the full arcs, which would be about 5 in total, I will begin drawing out the pages in full. You can count on that.

On this blog, What I plan to do is show off more things. Draw and show off more detail things like what the map looks like, region names and events going on in that world, etc. Also, more about details about every soldier ever suggested shall make their appearance sometime on this blog. New costumes for characters that reflect different periods in their life. As well as how the structure of this story will be improved over Project ADAM which had many short comings I failed to anticipate.

Look forward to future postings on this blog
Don't forget to leave a comment!

Damned Nation Map - Subway

First screen shot in-game!

Finally finished detailing the subway. I wasn't sure where I wanted to start, so I figured I start on at least the first safe-room and some of the surrounding area. Most of the areas I should begin to concentrate on though are overlapping areas in the maps and the two known safe-rooms.

Here's the before.

Simple, lifeless room with nothing going on. Suppose to be a subway station.

The arrival area from map 1 to map 2. This side of the platform is under construction. Off to the far left, you can see the entrance to the subway car.

The subway car here is meant to block off the players from map one and two.

Looking from the area of the crash towards the end of the station.

Here's a long shot. Looking towards the crash, most of this area is in map 2.

The Safe-room, which doesn't feel very safe. I'm sure, under the right circumstances, a tank could roll right over. Hence why there isn't any sleeping bags here, PCs wouldn't spend long here.

I will get around to an in-game rendering once most of the subway is finished off. I've not completely hooked where I want to light it.

ALSO
As of yesterday, April 8th, I have officially moved away from doing anything TF2 related. Its hard to have fun with a game that became a focus from game play towards item collection. Not my sort of fun, and hasn't been so much since they've opened the store. Which this, I have burned copy backups of the maps I was working on, but they have been removed from my PC. I am no longer working on them at all.

Sorry.

Damned Nation Map

Well, been a while since I made a post. Mostly the time spent between the last post and this one was mostly focused on writing for different projects. This time around, I've decided to rework the Damned Nation Campaign over for upload. I felt the heavy need to rework the campaign over and over a few times just to get a sense of how the map, I imagine, would work out. Each cresendo has been tested previously, and there was a layout, but I have to redo the map over after a recent hardware crash.

As it looks now, its rather rough. This is a 4 map centered campaign with one optional cresendo, and a gauntlet. The finale is still a bit of a debate, but since its across the river, there is no rush to plan a layout for it now until at least map 3's initial layout is done.

Players will start at (S), at the docks of the map and at the base of the bridge they want to get on top of. They will head down the street towards a few different paths that the director decides to pick. The easiest of course would be the "dance hall lobby", followed by one of three entrances to the "office #1 and stores" (the farthest door being the second easiest and the other two being mildly easier. After which the players will arrive somewhere in the alley at (1). They are to head towards the following street and then are possibly given a choice of paths again, which leads them towards (2), the backlot. Here I may plan to run a cresendo, which would be a simple spray and pray (for now). Then the players are to head towards the next street where they are to head down the path and cross an director-optional overpass to (3). After that, the players are to head downstairs towards the "Hazmat Alley", which then they must enter the subway which is under construction. Map 1 ends at (E).

Map 2 starts at (E) and continues down the subway tunnel towards "Hole #1", then continue down towards "Hole #2". There, they must take the ladder to (4), which is back to street level. After that, there are alternative paths again. This time, its either "Apartment #2", a small Alley, or through the "Theater". Players will make their way to (5) on the map and are now in a parking and loading area. The are to enter the "Depo" which will contain an optional crescendo. Make their way towards the overpass towards the office building. Here, they will have to navigate from the second floor to the Third floor where there is a saferoom (E2) at the end of map 2.

Map 3 will leave through the same door as (E2) ended on the last map. They are to make their way up one more flight of stairs and towards the roof. After which there path only will take them to the train bridge. After exiting a caboose, the gauntlet crescendo will start and players are to make their way over the bridge towards a "Indoor Pool" building (E3).

Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out what way I want to end the campaign so there currently is no layout map for the other half of Map 3 or Map 4. However, I will have time to debate that sort of thing when I get to it. Because players are crossing the water, there isn't a need for me to make that part of the map right now.

Theme: Daytime
No. of Maps: 4

Lancelot Hold A2 might be scrapped for A3.

Been extra busy with work and when I've had off I've been busy doing some note organization for my steampunk backstory. Only because, a few days after play testing A1A of Lancelot hold, did I run into a major problem; the game mode was broken.

I'm not talking simple fix either. For a few weeks now, we've been running into major errors with how it came out playing. The game mode ran into a few problems that neither Midel and I couldn't resolve quickly for the next upload. So the map sat on the back-burner for a few days while we attempted different fixes for the map. Eventually, Saturday the 26th, we finally got a the game mode working that rid of checkboard errors and players being in a constant "we surrender" stance upon round end.

Upload Link: @tf2maps.net

On Sunday, the following day, I was able to optimize and upload the map for play testing.

The following changes were made:
- Removed any areas that might end up being dead ends.
- Fixed Scout Exploit getting to C.
- Reworked game mode for more dynamic play, moving away from degrootkeep's style.
- Opened point A.
- Decreased distance between Blu spawn and Points
- Added a new path to B that appears on A being captured.
- Altered Point C to change height upon capping A and as well as point B.
- New Layout for Blu Spawn
- Fixed all Torches to now light arrows properly.

Doesn't even feel like a full day passed before I was given more feedback than I expected. Case in point, Weeble of HKC's reply was up faster than I had time for a blog update! (I had 16 hours of work between uploading and this post.) But with such a long reply comes the assessment that maybe the game play needs to be updated before any play testing happens.

TL;DR - The game mode started as Degrootkeep's gravelpit style to Steel's style. Sorry this isn't going to be inked and colored out. Many of these characters are going to be in a short comic I'm working on called (currently) "A Few Loose Screws", with the exception of No. 04 and possibly No. 12.

No. 01, No. 04, and No. 07 have names.
-------------------------------------------------------
No. 01 and No. 07 are both known as Jenny Everywhere.
No. 04 is known as Lady Myers Oddette (currently)

No. 01 - Jenny Everywhere, Main character for the comic.
No. 02 - A remade character I can't recall if I featured on Deviant Art before.
No. 03 - One of the two main villains for the comic.
No. 04 - My witch character for my friend's pathfinder game.
No. 05 - One of the three grand old wise people.
No. 06 - Originally this was a character version of myself that I did for a comic jam for Comic Genesis. I decided how much I liked the character being Corporate Spy, which sort of acts like a ninja.
No. 07 - The Second Jenny Everywhere character for the comic.
No. 08 - Second of three grand wise old people. Yes, he is wearing a trash bag... I mean, what else do you do with people you don't need anymore?
No. 09 - The female of the three grand old wise people.
No. 10 - This is another redone character I went and reused for the comic. Originally he was submitted for a tournament that never launched off the ground. I ended up not really liking his lunatic side for the comic.
No. 11 - The other main villain for the story. He's actually featured from another devart picture I have done recently. I never got around to doing that entry for the Ebon Spire because I wrote the longest intro for the comic without realizing it. I ended up not completing it in time and withdrew myself before even coloring it. Only the cover art made it. I liked the idea behind the character I opted to reuse him for this story.
No. 12 - A not so necessary henchmen, but I figured that #11 needs at least one. Unfortunately, I'm told by my gf that my character looks too much like the Pyro from tf2. Honestly, I don't care, anyone who wears a gas mask can look like the pyro. I was attempting more steampunk variation with both No. 11 and No. 12.

Deviant Art Link: http://fav.me/d37mkry

Namu - Colored

Here we are at one of the two main important characters for the story, In One Byte. You may remember (or may not) recall that his name is revered atheist Namu Pobel, a name meaning "Come Home". In his change from Project ADAM to In One Byte, Namu hasn't changed as much but he's been given one major alteration to the storyline. I can't say yet, but you'll find out sure enough in Chapter 1 of the comic, when ever that happens.

You may be wondering why he's holding a Pomegranate rather than an apple. The apple wasn't really the forbidden fruit of Genesis, in fact there has been a lot of different accounts that the forbidden fruit was a number of things including figs, grapes, tomatoes and even pomegranates.

Devart link: http://fav.me/d36v3tx

Snyoo - Colored

Another Minor Character from the Redux version of Project ADAM. Here is Snyoo Kehprees Shooh. Her name may or may not be too apparent Like Tahlbit's is. She's what I like to think as the new version of Kohrinna and Pohcca from the older comic, but more. Her role in the comic will not be as clear until later in the story. Its more of the sample art for the finale page which shows what Scale would look in this style. Thing is, took longer to get this page done than most others, and despite my own emotional reaction to the finale, I am glad to see the comic actually end. I hope that the pages get submitted to the EOU and Cameo Comic soon! I want to show off the pages without spoiling the story.

For something that was written to be only 12 pages wrong, taking liberty with other people's art styles, in respect I might add, and reusing the surviving original pages of the finale that was otherwise lost due to a crash, the comic finale came along fine. Mind you, the art style of the final page of the finale is actually from no unknown comic. This whole project felt like a lesson in how to find my own style for One Byte. What you see here is more of an example in how I might approach drawing the character Adam, for the new comic. The final page of the finale, however, is an approach at stylizing more the comic when I get to making it. I actually started liking the little technical aspects behind it.

With this project now out of the way and under the belt, I can move on to my next comic project. Which should deal with the exploration of character drawing.

Tahlbit - Colored

Working on one of the characters of "In One Byte". Foreshock will now be known as Aftershock. I checked around and there wasn't a name named the same. I will also continue using Foreshock for a fun, non-serious koth map after Aftershock is done.

Since A2a (second release of the map), the TF2 group "HK Community" has expressed interest in play testing the map for me and even invited me for public/private testing. They've tested A2B as well, found things that should change that I haven't really thought of to change. Since I agreed, I've gone ahead and started changes as they have suggested.

Since there aren't major, life changing aspects to fix for A3, I can start detailing the first round.

I really need to thank the HKC sometime for the support they gave.

My Current Projects

Ever since my old comic, Project ADAM ended at the beginning of 2009, I since then picked up new projects and took on different interests. I have attempted with ADAM, after a good mourning period, new work on a new comic featuring some of the returning cast, but there have been a lot of alterations. Other projects listed have been on and off in work. When I get caught with one problem, I wander into another one's work. Of all these projects, the one that's been more on going than the last was the Steam Punk Fantasy, which has seen many drafts and rewrites. Its now, once again, in a phase where the story structure is having its rules being reset to something more concrete.

(In no Particular Order):

Team Fortress 2 Map: Aftershock A3 link1, link2

L4d2 Campaign: "City Tour ban" (working name) - Working on project with friend.

EOU/CC's Catnap Finale (Pages 7-12) - Been approached by fans of the character to

Steam punk Fantasy written story - Developing last of species rules, 1/3 of magic rules left.

Project ADAM/In One Byte (comic series in development, with current plot outlines)

Jenny Everywhere in "A few loose Nuts" (short comic wanted to do one since the last J.
